What Excel does with a bigger file

Since Excel 2007 a worksheet holds 1,048,576 rows by 16,384 columns, in every version up to Microsoft 365. Open a CSV with more rows and Excel warns "File not loaded completely", shows the first 1,048,576 rows and leaves out the rest. Save over the original and the missing rows are gone.

What is Excel's maximum number of rows?
1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns (up to column XFD) per worksheet, in Excel 2007 and every version since, including Microsoft 365.
Can Google Sheets open more rows than Excel?
Sometimes. Sheets caps a spreadsheet at 10 million cells, not at a row count, so a 5-column file fits 2 million rows but a 20-column file stops at 500,000.
Can Power Query get around the limit?
It can load more rows into the Data Model, but then you work through PivotTables instead of scrolling the rows. To read and filter the rows themselves, open the file here.
How many rows can rows.page open?
There's no fixed cap. The limit is browser memory, about 1.5 GB of data per tab, which is several million rows for most exports.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Opening a file reads it inside your browser tab. It only leaves your machine if you share it or push it with curl.
